About
My name is Nia Lovemore, I am a self-taught Gothic Fantasy illustrator specializing in colored pencil illustration!!! I find endless inspiration in gothic romanticism, dark fantasy, and the act of creating a realm to escape-- a sanctuary--a place where the spirit knows no limits.
My art is a love letter to self-expression in its truest form, untethered to the restrictions reality imparts upon us. I love fantasy because it allows me to express myself with a level of authenticity that reality does not allow for. It allows me to be free. Whether I’m drawing sapphic vampires, malevolent succubi, or ethereal enchantresses, conceptually I’m always trying to distillate an aspect of my subconscious being, and of my human experience. It is therapeutic.
My greatest desires is to create emotionally resonant, universal, and meaningful art that features black women and all of our beautiful complexities. As much as I love gothic and fantasy art, there is an exceedingly rare amount of narratives that feature black women in alternative media and art forms. This honestly used to make me really sad, I felt very misunderstood in the world, that there was no place for me...this was something I struggled with for many years and it still has its way of haunting me; But then I realized that the art I seek is not in the world, it is within me. I realized my purpose is to extract that art and share it with the world. I want my art to make people feel understood, to feel inspired, to feel loved. With that realization, I felt my sense of purpose and belonging for finally awaken.
Now, and I determined. I have a mission. A dream. I dream of making more comics and my ultimate fantasy is to one day make an amazing video game and several animated series! If any of that interests you, I would love to share this journey together. This journey of turning fantasies into reality, and chasing a sense of purpose, meaning, and legacy.
<3 ~ Much love, Nia
